Why does food become a deadly enemy for some people? Nowadays young people just think about fashion, being thin and to imitate to artists and models that are fashionable. The extreme thinness that they are choosing is a clear sample of the lack of affection, love, and self-esteem, as well as a reflection of which our environment forces them. So if we change the stereotypical images presented in the media, it will help to diminish the number of people that have anorexia.
The fact that television shows us extremely thin models, with perfect breasts and curved actresses does not imply that that’s the real beauty that a woman must have. The woman with form hourglass is not the prototype of real woman, but is the type of woman that society is imposing to us. That the plastic surgeries have increased towards several years and that the people continue doing it means that there are people who do not feel happy with their body and therefore they look for to be to the height of those people that claim to be "perfect:" noses, breasts, wide hips, and a flat belly. We should change this.
The young people, especially those that are between 13 and 21 years old, which I include myself, see publicity that say very subliminally to us that we are not perfect and this is what has triggered the increase of nervous anorexia. Lack of appetite, vomiting after eating and other characteristics of this disease that very is recognized world-wide level and that is case of study by many governments of countries that are worried about their youth. And how will they help to that, it just will be corrected if we make people to realize how the real beauty is.
The eating disorder anorexia is a unique reaction to a variety of external and internal conflicts, such as stress, anxiety, unhappiness and feeling like life is out of control. Anorexia is a negative way to cope with these emotions. “A person suffering anorexia may be abnormally sensitive about being perceived as fat, or have a massive fear of becoming fat -- though not all people living with anorexia have this fear. Some of the behavioral signs can be: obsessive exercise, calorie and fat gram counting, starvation and restriction of food, self-induced vomiting, the use of diet pills, laxatives or diuretics to attempt controlling weight, and a persistent concern with body image. To be skinny is synonymous of success or ”if I am skinny everything will be easier.” This is what the majority creates firmly and this causes that all the efforts to be centered in one “magic diet”. Social pressure is very big, so much that there is no meeting in which the subject of is not weighed touched, of “a few more pounds” or “the trendy diet”. All the population in general is worried about the figure. The cult to the body is the culture where the disease appears and it expands. It is important to be aware from that, because these percentages reflect and that we try to detect what happens around us and in our families. So we should change the stereotypical images.
Our culture nowadays gives more importance to the image and is that the preoccupation to be considered people intelligent, successful and efficient, and of course, attractive, is more intense and constant. As much the men as the women are interested to project positivism, to please others and to obtain admiration and affection.
All aims to being recognized, being valued and being admired by the group. An enough tendency idolatry since its greater yearning is to rob the attention of all the others and to occupy an outstanding place in the society. For that reason they are demanded to take care of nourishment and to do a lot of exercise, because they are practical healthful, or to be very pending of the fashion because its roll therefore requests them. This is how we can go for finish, cut or even try to disappear the stereotypes that make a lot of women and men to be someone they are not.
This tendency carried out by the image takes step to him to the creation of a series of stereotypes. In the feminine case, one says that the woman must be thin, who the blond hair is more sensual and than the great chests they are more attractive, reason why many women until become ill fighting by being able to fulfill requisite resemblances. But no, we are what we are, how we born with any type of hair and skin color,
Rigorous diets, plastic surgeries, treatments of beauty and long hours in the gymnasium are some of the practices to which the women usually resort, with the purpose of projecting a modern and contemporary image. And... What has behind a so extreme effort? Nutritional Bulimia, anorexia, depressions and problems, by this the campaigns that are made today as the one of Dove they are important because they teach that the real woman, the real beauty is in one same one without surgeries, anorexia, bulimia nor anything. This is the beginning of the end of stereotypes someone began doing something and we should support this being ourselves.
Everyone wants to be pretty, that it seems important to you to cultivate your intellect, to maintain your health divinely, as long as to obtain you decide it to be you yourself, guide by your own principles, faithful being to him to your thoughts and not to risk anything. In conclusion, what you do never seems to be a sacrifice; on the contrary, which they are decisions or attitudes that fill to you of happiness and make you feel the happiest person of the world. To want each part of your body, to value it and to respect it, is one of the fundamental things that is needed to accept that all we are different. Indeed, they are those differences that make us be beautiful and full of authenticity. Changing stereotypical images presented in television, radio and all the media will reduce the number of people that have anorexia because that way the people this media is presenting to us will be the real one and not the want to be.

Israel's creation became one of the most important events of the last century due to the importance for Jewish people of having its own territory. Jewish had tried to establish in a land and they went to the territory they thought were the one from them.
Before they joined together Israel’s people were just tribes, and each one them integrated one group. After they joined together they celebrated a lot of things such as the end of slavery that they were accustomed to since epochs before Christ. This an the anti-Semitism feeling that was emerging in Europe were also important causes of the creation of the state of Israel, even if it is not accepted as a real state by the UN or a lot of countries all over the world.
The ideological foundation of the State, from most of its parties and contemporary political institutions and of the individuals that have established them comes from the Zionist movement, that adopted like primary target creating "for the Jewish people a state in Palestine, strengthened by the public right" (Herlz, 265).
Great Britain after World War was in charge of Palestinian. The promise made by the British to the Palestinian Arab leaders on granting the independence of its territories that were under the British mandate when concluding World War I, allowed the expulsion of the Turks of Palestine in 1917 and 1918. Nevertheless, these promises did not stay the Arabs.
In order to gain the support of the European Jewish community (whose economic support needed to maintain the effort warlike), the Minister of Outer Subjects British Arthur Balfour committed in a letter directed to the Zionist leader British Lord Rothschild to support the constitution of a Jewish State in the then Turkish possession of Palestine. Although the declaration indicated that the new state did not have to cause to damage some to the rights of the Arab population of the territory, this commitment was clearly contradictory with the promise done in the same period to the Arab leaders who had rebelled themselves against the Turks to grant the government to them of Palestine.
Message by Mr. Arthur Balfour British Secretary of State and shipment to Baron Lionel Rothschild in the heat of mandate: "the Government of his Majesty watches with approval the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish town, and used his better efforts for the profit of this objective, clearly is understood that nothing will be caused that harms the civil and religious rights of existing Non-Jewish community of Palestine..."
One of the determining factors that the creation of the new state of Israel allowed, was the Palestinian earth purchase and colonization, thanks to immigrations favored by Great Britain. The affluence of the Jews coming from central Europe increased abruptly after the arrival of the Nazi regime to Germany in 1933, thus in the following years, annually entered Palestine around 62,000 Jews.
The Jewish community, or Yishuv, was multiplied by ten during the decade of 1930 in which a great number of Jews fled from the Nazi persecutions in Europe. Tel Aviv became the more important Jewish community of the country, dozens of cities were based and towns and settled down hundreds of Jewish agricultural collectivities (kibbutzim) and of cooperatives.
In a speech the minister Moshe Dyan said:
"We came here to a country that was populated by Arabs and we are building here a Hebrew, a Jewish state; instead of the Arab villages, Jewish villages were established. You even do not know the names of those villages, and I do not blame you because these villages no longer exist. There is not a single Jewish settlement that was not established in the place of a former Arab Village." After all Israel's creation was such an event that today is very common to hear in news not about the creation of the state but we hear a lot about the Arab-Israeli conflict that includes it. Jewish established in a land and they are there to stay.

Washington and Lincoln are two of the most famous presidents of USA, but they were very different. The differences involve their military roles and backgrounds.

Washington came from a wealthy aristocratic background and had several years of schooling. He also was a general and a military leader. He became presiden and served for two terms and therefore had eight years to accomplish his policies.

On the other hand Lincoln came from a poor background and had very little schooling. He never served in the military. He was a lawyer who early became on a politician. When he became president, he took on the role of commander in chief, as all U.S. presidents do. Despite his lack of military background or training he made several strategic decisions that enabled the U.S. military leaders to win the Civil War. Lincoln was assasinated while he was in office so he was not able to finish some of the things that he wanted for the country.

In which areas of language use have you improved, in your opinion?
I think I have improved writing. The mistakes that I make and Erin corrects makes me realize that I'm learning and that I have improve a lot in it. The punctuation, order of paragraphs and a lot of things.

Which areas of langauge use are still a problem?
Some things like organizing paragraphs. Tabs, still some punctuation problems and vocabulary.

Which areas of language use do you want to spend the most time on during the rest of the semester?
Pronunciation. I'm tired of writing.

What type of classwork is most useful, in your opinion?
Classwork where we have to research about something that helps us in our major. Like oil problems, Mahoma cartoons, how can I negociate with japanese people, things like that.

What can you personally do to increase your rate of progress?
Talking in english with people I know can talk with me about anything, writing in english and trying to learn about something.

Do you have any other comments or suggestions about this class?
I think it's great that we write. Writing is an important part of learning english but it's too much writng. The class should be more dinamic I don''t know.

Israel's Creation: The Untold Diplomatic Story

Dr. Mandel is associate director of the Middle East Forum. He earned his PhD from the University of Melbourne (Australia), where he is also a fellow. His articles have appeared in Australian and U.S. publications, including the Middle East Quarterly. He is the author of H.V. Evatt and the Establishment of Israel: The Undercover Zionist (London: Routledge, 2004). He addressed the Middle East Forum in Philadelphia on June 15, 2004.

Israel's creation depended heavily on the actions of H.V. Evatt, the enigmatic Australian statesman who served as president of the U.N. General Assembly at the time of Israel's admission to the United Nations. A brilliant jurist and Labor attorney-general and external affairs minister, Evatt first came to international prominence as an architect of the U.N. Charter at the 1945 San Francisco conference, which saw the world body established. The New York Times named him the "outstanding figure of the conference."

Evatt then guided the 1947 Palestine partition plan through the U.N.; in so doing, he transformed the history of the modern Middle East. Yet researching his role is unusually difficult, because Evatt was a cagey individual who kept no diary, corresponded little and had a tendency to appropriate official papers. He was given to spying on his own bureaucracy and engineered friends and associates into positions of power. It was thus that he placed his confidante, Sam Atyeo, and a career diplomat, John Hood, to handle the Palestine brief when the British turned the mandate over to the United Nations.

The Context
When Evatt became president of the General Assembly, the U.N. was still in its infancy and was invested with a lot of hope and respect by its then democratic majority. With Palestine turned over to the U.N., most governments were reluctant to deal with the problem so an investigative committee composed of representatives from eleven nations, including Australia, was dispatched to investigate.

When this commission reported back it voted seven to three in favor of partition with one abstention – Australia. With his eyes on the U.N. presidency, Evatt was fearful of alienating the Arab bloc. However, when he lost the vote that year he was compensated with the chairmanship of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Palestinian Question. As the pressures increased and the State Department maneuvered to torpedo partition, Evatt moved the competing proposals into two separate sub committees. This allowed a detailed partition plan to be prepared unobstructed by the Arab states and their supporters.

Partition
Evatt's committee ended up recommending partition to the General Assembly, but only after the narrowest of defeats for an Arab proposal to refer the issue to the International Court of Justice. Evatt insisted on recommending partition before the end of the 1947 General Assembly session. On the last day of its session, November 29, 1947, the Assembly approved partition by a vote of 33 to 13 with 10 abstentions. With the Cold War emerging, this proved the last time that the two superpowers cooperated for years to come.

After Israel's emergence in May 1948, Evatt opposed tenaciously Britain's efforts to prevent the entire British Commonwealth from recognizing her. In the end, Britain had to bow to the verdict of Israel's survival on the battlefield and in March 1949, in the last week of Evatt's presidency of the Assembly, Israel was admitted to the U.N.

The Internationalization of Jerusalem
The idea of internationalizing Jerusalem had been made an element of the partition plan, largely at Evatt's insistence. The reason for his insistence was domestic Australian politics: the Catholic vote, both in Australia and in his own party, was highly influential, evidenced by the fact that 13 of his 20 cabinet colleagues were Catholic, and once the Vatican came out in favor of full internationalization, Catholic countries supported this stance.

Although Evatt saw that full internationalization would be very difficult to put into practice and recognized that a war had changed the landscape, he remained committed to the idea of internationalization. In discussion with the Israeli representative in Australia, he argued that internationalization would not harm Israel's interests; what mattered would be how much authority Israel obtained in the territory it sought.

Thus, Evatt introduced a resolution at the U.N. for Jerusalem's internationalization. The sight of Australia, a non-Catholic country, backing the Vatican position pressured Catholic countries into supporting it. However, Evatt's resolution, which contained a subtle clause requiring an international committee to meet in 12 months to review the issue, was omitted in subsequent bargaining. The result was that full internationalization was adopted, a position that is still advocated in many quarters and which has led most countries not to recognize Jerusalem as

Israel's capital.
Evatt, perhaps more than anyone else, was responsible for the partition plan being navigated through the U.N. His role demonstrates the sometimes decisive part played by individuals in affecting the course of history and provides an insight into one of the reasons Jerusalem remains such a vexed issue to this day.

DESCRIBING MY FAVORITE CARNIVAL MEMORY

I can't even think about it, because I think that I've been in a lot of carnivals; and most of it had been great.

But giving space to the memory, I liked last carnival.

I mean 2005 carnival, because I was 16 years old, and my parents let me or better said allowed me a lot of things that they weren't used to do.

One of the things that they weren't used to do was to go alone or with a friend to a house of a boy friend.

I loved when they let me go to watch a soccer game. If I remember well, the Colombian team of soccer - But no the older's one those one Between 16 and 20 years old -. That was on Sunday and it was the Great Parade of Tradition that is the vent that I like the least.

My name is Wendy, I'm 17 years old and I'm from QuillaTown I mean Barranquilla, Colombia.
What else can I say? That I studied all my life in San Miguel del Rosario School from La Presentación. I used to be in every group in my school, well I'm not a mouse lab but I like to read, actually I love to do it.

Talking about the groups I joined to. I was in Dancing group, Youth grup that was kind of a religious group for young people, I was in math group and in lecture group also.

I'm studying right now International Bussines at Uninorte and I love it, I love that my major has everything that I wanted to study, maths, languages except accounting - I really don't like it -.

I think dancing is the most important thing to me because when I dance I let go all my feelings and I can express everything. Here in the university I'm in the folkloric group and I had to travel to Cartagena to performance and it was so much fun.
